John Tenta, the former LSU wrestler and professional wrestler best known as Earthquake, died on June 7, 2006, at the age of 42. Tenta had been battling cancer for several years.

Tenta was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on June 22, 1963. He was a standout wrestler at LSU, where he was a two-time All-American and won the NCAA heavyweight championship in 1986.

After graduating from LSU, Tenta began his professional wrestling career in Japan. He later wrestled in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) as Earthquake, a member of the heel stable The Natural Disasters. Tenta was a two-time WWF Tag Team Champion with Typhoon.

Tenta left the WWF in 1993 and wrestled for several other promotions, including All Japan Pro Wrestling and World Championship Wrestling (WCW). He retired from wrestling in 1999.

Tenta was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2004. He underwent surgery and chemotherapy, but the cancer eventually spread to his lungs.

Tenta is survived by his wife, Julie, and two children.
